What is Music Therapy?
The Australian Music Therapy Association defines music therapy as “a research-based allied health profession in which music is used to actively support people as they aim to improve their health, functioning and well-being. It can help people of all ages to manage their physical and mental health and enhance their quality of life. You don’t need to be musical to take part in or benefit from music therapy. Qualified music therapists provide musical experiences for participants and have professional registration with the Australian Music Therapy Association. https://www.austmta.org.au/about-us/what-is-mt/
NDIS
NDIS music therapy services are available using Capacity Building Funds. Only Self or Plan Managed Participants are eligible for services. Participants are asked to provide a copy of their plan. A brief conversation will be arranged with the custodian of a self managed plan or the support coordinator for a plan managed participant to assess suitability and risk. An initial assessment (meet & greet) will be arranged before subsequent services are arranged. NDIS Music Therapy specific reports can be provided using 2 hours of therapeutic funding + an optional assessment meeting. It is recommended to engage with the music therapist before your plan commences or before a plan review to ensure adequate funding for the service period.
