You can now view the whole series of How to Choose a Therapist in Conversations from the Yellow Chair with host, Andrea Bryk (owner-director Waves of Harmony) and Greg Roberts (PhD, owner-director Grief and Trauma Support).
This final Vlog in the 3-part series is a conversation about how to know when therapy is working, not working, or run it's course. The conversation delves into questioning the therapy experience; questioning the benefits, ups and downs, or potential distress / discomfort. Andrea and Greg unpack some aspects that happen before, during and between therapy sessions and how they may affect how therapy or the therapist resonates with you.
Some questions include: Is there anticipation prior to meeting my therapist- in what ways? How am I sensing the benefits of therapy- are the methods in line with my expectations? How much am I putting into therapy between sessions doing homework? Am I sensing results (internal or external) from attending? Is the growth or is the discomfort I am feeling due to changing old patterns or is it actually counterproductive?
The conversation also provides some reassurance that it is okay to discontinue therapy or find a new therapist or modality. This is framed as a normal response to growth and awareness.
***Take the opportunity to listen to Greg Robert's guided meditation focusing on aspects of the therapy experience: https://soundcloud.com/greg-grief-trauma-support/sensing-into-the-experience-of?si=df2db78d5c234753a772e20f78d2f8ec&utm_source=clipboard&utm_medium=text&utm_campaign=social_sharing
